A two nighter?

We haven't done a two night camp as yet, so with the weather being OK and having the weekend off work, we thought that getting away at 16:00 on the Friday, would be a good chance to see if a two night camp is worth the packing and setting up.

Having only come back from camping on the Monday we again headed back to Charoland Campsite meaning a travel time of 1 hr. I did wonder how this would go with it being Friday. We packed the car up the night before and Mandy dropped me off at work.

We did travel lighter this time with just the 3 meter pod, rain awning and the newly made rain awning sides. Other things were missed off our usual kit to take and to be honest it was great.

The well thought out facilities with the new addition of a washing up sink for tent campers was well received. The reception building houses the details for your stay and a little info for the local area.

The tent was soon up and after a cuppa we relaxed having only taken about 1hr to set everything up. Looking forward to seeing how the new rain awning sides would work and initial feeling is very well. It would most likely be better for sunnier camping trips as there are small gaps at the base of the rain awning where it meets the pod.

As the sun dipped behind the trees Mandy remarked it felt like we had been here for ages already, which was really what we would be hoping would be the feeling. Red wine flowing and Paella for tea, had us enjoying the night sky with many planets being noticed due to the clear skies.

Would we do a two night camp again.....without doubt.....but I think to get the most enjoyment it would have to be weather dependant.

As I like to keep up with weather here is the view of the temperatures noted inside the tent on this particular trip. As usual it got left in the tent on pack up so we had to go rooting inside to find it!

LK35 Rucksack Overview and Thoughts. (Canvas Version)

I managed to pick up a reasonable used condition iconic rucksack from from the Swedish Military. The LK35 is a steel framed bucket style rucksack used from the 70s onwards. It's ability to carry heavy loads and pack quite a lot of gear inside...and crucially outside, is very much sought after. It's a very basic sack, but its design with all the straps for extra loading points is superb. Described as a 35ltr in size, I am sure it can take more. I have always owned a metal external frame rucksack even in my days with the scouts, so this fits the bill nicely. It seems to be popular choice for those looking to carry unusual loads, like game meat or timber. I can't see that being my requirement though. Mine is one of two styles reportedly made, one being of canvas with the other from Cordura synthetic material with PU coating inside. I am guessing that the Cordura version will resist water better. Most of the Rucksacks I have seen online via YouTube, have been Cordura as it s...

Wild Camp Locally. Covid - 19

Well how very quick the landscape of life changes. A virus in December in China had us wagging our fingers which soon changed to clenching our arse cheeks in March in Europe. Just before the strict rules on movement and self isolation came into force the weather suddenly swung to fair and dry! A friend very kindly asked if I wanted to go with him on a wild camp locally. We had permission from the landowner so I could hardly say no. It was up in the hills overlooking a small village in Rossendale a village where my camping buddy grew up in so it was nice to get a brief history on the area. My down sleeping bag (nearest.) Nice and small. We were just staying for one night. I took my small Vango Delta 200 and Mick took his newish One Tigris Smokey Hut Teepee with stove jack. Mick was very excited to finally get to use his new Titanium collapsible stove. You see Mick and I have a few addictions. Mine is tents, and lights, Micks is tents and stoves. The stove in use ...

Adults Only.........

We do have to be careful when we get the chance to go camping at this time of year. A bank holiday in summer and school holidays would normally not have us looking to go camping. Don't get me wrong I like children I just can't eat a whole one. Anyway in truth it's not the kids it's how the parents interact with the kids that has us on tenterhooks as little Johnny is told to go and kick his football somewhere else? If that's you saying that to your kid you are an arse! As it happened we found an adults only campsite within an hour of home so we thought why not. We have been before but at quiet times of the year. The site is called Charoland Farm. Here is a link  Charoland Farm Campsite The bonus for me is that my favourite Vietnam helicopter the Huey (Bell HU-1A) often flies over The weather has been mixed so far with sunny spells and heavy downpours. Today has been glorious and the sun has reflected nicely on my forehead. The tent ha...
