We do have to be careful when we get the chance to go camping at this time of year. A bank holiday in summer and school holidays would normally not have us looking to go camping. Don't get me wrong I like children I just can't eat a whole one.
Anyway in truth it's not the kids it's how the parents interact with the kids that has us on tenterhooks as little Johnny is told to go and kick his football somewhere else? If that's you saying that to your kid you are an arse!
As it happened we found an adults only campsite within an hour of home so we thought why not. We have been before but at quiet times of the year. The site is called Charoland Farm.
Here is a link Charoland Farm Campsite
The bonus for me is that my favourite Vietnam helicopter the Huey (Bell HU-1A) often flies over
The weather has been mixed so far with sunny spells and heavy downpours. Today has been glorious and the sun has reflected nicely on my forehead.
The tent has had a lot of rain fall on it particularly over night but we have no issues with leaking. As many campers know the sound of rain on canvas is very much a thing of beauty.....but not too much of course!
The sun falls away behind the trees and I can't believe that the weather is due to switch back to very wet tomorrow.
I am sure it's common for many forgetting something, but we forgot our washing up bowl so we visited an outdoors shop whereby Mandy bought a Sea to Summit collapse bowl which holds 10Ltr. Not sure about it myself as it only works at it's best when filled at a full 10Ltrs, something we don't often do, as heating water on a gas stove makes this time consuming and wasteful.
The place we visited is a proper outdoor shop which is also online at Tamarak Outdoors
We also bought a polycotton Tarp made by Tatonka, for a few camps where it would be useful particularly when pitched with the small open fronted Outwell Newgate 3 tent.
The shop is more for outdoor activities incorporating bushcraft. Nice to see a few tepee type tents and wood carving items.
I also brought our travel moth trap, but with the overnight rains and blustery weather it's been a waste of time with just 3 moths so far!
I am hoping tonight might be better as the rain is not forecast until the early hours.
We made it home after another dry pack up with a little help from the owners leaf blower!
Back in the bag ready for the next camp. We are hoping September will be a good camping month.
Below are the temperatures within the tent throughout the stay. The maximum is also possibly due to a heater, but more likely due to the very warm Saturday.
